This Week in London – 12/12/16

Wednesday 14th Dec – An Evening of Cheese at Borough Market

If you’re obsessed with cheese like I am this will be the most exciting foodies events you’ve heard about in a long time… this week Borough Market is hosting an evening of cheese!

More than 20 cheesemongers will be coming together this Wednesday at the famous food market, located south of the river, to teach hungry punters about the art of cheese making whilst letting you sample and buy an array of their finest cheeses. There will also be a bar offering a selection of wine, ciders and beers, and experts giving advice on how best to pair  cheeses and drinks. Sounds like heaven to me!

If I’ve given you a hankering for cheese, or are thinking I know someone who’d love some fancy cheese as a Christmas gift, but don’t have the time to pop down to Borough market this week, check out the The Cheese Society who will deliver a selection of gourmet cheeses directly to your door!

Friday 16th – Sunday 18th Dec – Winter on the Green

Winter on the Green is a weekend of Christmassy fun and entertainment in Parsons Green, one of my favourite areas in South West London. There will be a pop-up ice rink, a fun fair, santa’s grotto, christmas market stalls, plenty of mulled wine, and even an open air cinema where you can cosy down with a blanket and hot chocolate to watch festive favourites such as Frozen and Elf.

As the venue put it themselves “Winter on the Green is the perfect venue for your family to enjoy the best of the season without the stress associated of other headline events located in central town.”

If you’re looking for somewhere to go after the event finishes at 5:30 try The White Horse pub on the north of the Green which is great if you’re looking for a buzzing atmosphere and heated outdoor terrace, or try New Kings Road (which boarders the south of the Green) which has a wide range of cafes, restaurants and pubs to pick from.

Tickets for Winter on the Green need to be purchased in advance using the link above!

Saturday 17th Dec – I Bike London’s Nightmare before Christmas Ride

I Bike London is a community of cyclists who want to promote and celebrate cycling in the city by organising regular free group rides and bike parties. This Saturday they are encouraging Londoners to dress up in their creepiest Christmas costumes and join them, and their fleet of disco bikes which will be pumping out the festive tunes, on an evening cycle around the capital. The event is family friendly and there will be food stops along the way. I really think cycling is a fantastic way to explore any city, and an event like this is perfect opportunity for seeing some new parts of London in a unique and exciting way, as well as fitting in some exercise, with a fun and friendly group of likeminded individuals. Plus the opportunity to get the fancy dress out is always a plus in my books.

  1. The cheeses in Borough Market look incredible! I didn’t buy any when I visted as I don’t have the money to spend, but I could seriously go nuts there if given the chance.
