All Week – Pantomime Season kicks off!
Did anyone else used to go to see a pantomime every Christmas as a child? Yeah, me too! Well why not carry on this tradition on into adulthood? You’re never too old for a panto! The big show of the year has to be Cinderella at the London Palladium, staring big names such as Paul O’Grady, Julian Clary and Amanda Holden, which starts it’s 5 week run on Saturday 10th December. This is the first time a pantomime has been performed at the venue in nearly 30 years making it the hottest seat in town this winter.
However if you’re looking for something a little more low key, and quite a bit cheaper, the childhood classic Dick Whittington starts at New Wimbledon Theatre on Friday. Peter Pan has also returned to London, where the famous story begins, at both the Oliver Theatre South Bank and Greenwich Theatre.
Make sure you shop around before buying tickets as there are some great deals out there. I managed to book premium tickets in the stalls (3rd row from the front) to see Dick Whittington for only £25pp on LoveTheatre.com. Also try LastMinute.com.
Thursday 9th December – Dial-a-Carol
I know this one isn’t strictly something happening in London but it was just too great not to share. For one week each December student volunteers at the University of Illinois set up a 24/7 phone line where anyone can call and be sung a Christmas carol. What a great way to spread some Christmas cheer!
The phone line will be open from 12:01am on Thursday 9th December until 23:59pm on Wednesday 14th. Just call (217) 332-1882 and request your favourite holiday tune.
Friday 9th until Sunday 11th December – The BBC Good Food Festive Fayre at Hampton Court Palace
This weekend the BBC Good Food Festive Fair heads to Hampton Court Palace. With plenty of stalls selling festive food and drink this is the perfect opportunity to stock up your kitchen before your Christmas guests start to arrive. There is also a Christmas gifts market if you’re still looking for the perfect present for a special someone, as well seasonal entertainment such as music and carol singing. What’s more, Hampton Court Palace has plenty of other activities to keep you occupied for the entire day, from exploring the Palace itself and learning about it’s famous occupants, to skating at it’s pop-up ice rink.
Saturday 10th December – Santacon 2016
Don’t be alarmed if you’re in central London this Saturday and come across a mob of slightly tipsy Santa’s singing carols in the streets and giving presents to children. This is the annual Santacon pub crawl which happens one Saturday in December every year. The event is free and anyone can join in, however you’ll need to register in advance to find out the route and Santa suits are a requirement (a hat does not count!).
Sunday 11th December – The Style Hub‘s Christmas Shopping Event
